Awesome beach day, awesome summer, awesomeness

Hey guys! I'm trying to neglect the fact that I haven't blogged in who knows how long tell you that I'm having a great summer! Hanging out at the beach with my friends, listening endlessly to Lady Gaga songs when I'm supposed to be sleeping, you know, all the good stuff they do in the movies.
The beach! Shockingly good cell phone picture!

Phil and I are skyping right now and he says to end this post now. But instead I'm going to tell you guys about something awesome! (did the title tip you off? I doubt it, because I'm a secretive person.)

So I'm leaving for Paris in a couple of days (!!!!!!), which means I'm starting a blog series called "Girl Meets Other-Side-of-the-Pond," which means more posts! From Europe! From a French keyboard! Heck yeah! Let's celebrate with a bottle of Sprite!

Again, I'm sorry not only to you guys but to myself for not blogging. I blame Lady Gaga. I can never get things done because of her. I can't help it that I keep singing Electric Chapel!

Do you guys have any tips for me? Tips in general? Stupid touristy mistakes not to make? Any help would be much appreciated!

Talk to you guys soon! And I'm going to catch up on posts tomorrow morning!!! I can't wait!! I've missed all your blogs!!!

Why, Jenna Rose, why?

So the other day Anneka showed me this video.... and not only did my brain barf, but my hopeful attitude towards the level of moral values in our generation died.
This girl is 12 YEARS OLD!!! WHAT THE HECK???

Not only are the dance moves way too risque for a kid, but they're just bad. Really, really bad.
I don't know what else to say. This is just so sad, that a 12 year old would act like that.

Maybe you guys have seen "My Jeans," the other video from Jenna Rose? I'm not going to knock that one because that one was innocent. It was about Bedazzled jeans. Bedazzled items are usually harmless. But this one is just.... yuck.
What do you guys think? Do you think it's ok for a 12 year old to be acting like this? Why do you think a 12 year old would act like this?

Vampires are out, Angels are in

So last weekend my mom went to a publishing conference to meet with agents. This time she brought back all of these meaty catalogs from all of the main publishing houses for children's lit, like Penguin, Simon and Schuster, Scholastic, Chronicle, etc. The catalogs feature middle grade and young adult novels coming out in the fall.

What I saw repulsed me. Like, tots ma goats legit.
(ignore the creepy deer-caught-in-headlights face I'm making)

And all of the plot synopsis's were the same. Girl goes to boarding school. Girl meets vampire hottie. Girl and vampire fall in love. Girl and vampire battle evil foes. AGHHH!! MY BRAIN IS PUKING INTELLIGENCE!!!

Where the heck is the creativity these days?? I mean, my mom's book is so insanely good. It's a middle grade novel about these kids who solve this crazy Revolutionary War mystery while spending a terrible family vacation at a dude ranch in Saratoga. What's not to like?? Why isn't it published?? Why hasn't it been turned into a movie yet??

All these stupid vampire books are all the same. But according to my mom, vampires are out now in the publishing world. The new thing is angels.

Example of an angel novel:
Girl discovers that she is an angel. Girl meets angel hottie. Girl and angel fall in love. Girl and angel battle evil foes. SOMEBODY SAVE ME FROM THIS TEENAGE LACKLUSTER DAYDREAM!!!

If you don't want to take part in this trend of the conformist publishing industry, don't read:

  • Strange Angels (angel)
  • Bloodlines (vampire)
  • The Space Between (angel)
  • Vampire Academy (vampire)
  • Shattered Souls (alternate universe love triangle)
Ugh. All of this really bothers me. I used to love Sci-Fi novels until the media turned it into super sexy "romantic" crap.

The only thing publishing houses want to publish are these stupid manuscripts. THANKS STEPHANIE MEYER. THANKS. It's so hard for me to find good books to read anymore. I heavily rely on Cliona's blog for ideas.
What do you guys think? Do you like/dislike these types of books? Do you think the publishing industry only publishes certain books? Do you have any good book suggestions?

goodbye middle school, hello summer

Hey peoples of this blogshere! I'm back! And guess what?
I'm a high schooler!
Ok not really, but I graduated middle school on Thursday! THANK THE GODS!

I had planned on writing a sentimental post on how one chapter of my life is over and another one is slowly unfolding but yeah. No.

So this is what I've been up to for the last couple of days:

  • THURSDAY - graduated middle school! Went to the beach with Marg to celebrate! Made risotto with my grandma!
  • FRIDAY - Made oatmeal raisin cookies with Marg and my grandma! Rode my bike in circles!
  • SATURDAY - Waited out the rain the whole day! Ate oatmeal raisin cookies! Watched 30 Rock reruns! Had a funeral for a bird that flew into my window! Ate more cookies!
I just can't believe middle school is over. I don't know how I feel about middle school... I mean, I don't feel like it's over. But if there's one thing to be certain of, this year was pretty weird.
Well, it's summer now! I'm looking forward to sleeping in, going to the beach, playing tennis, and watching 30 Rock whenever I want! Moo ha ha ha!

What are your summer plans? Or if you live in Australia, winter plans? Do you like to cook? Do you have awesome grandmas?
RANDOM QUESTION: If you could be an expert in any topic other than a one you are now, what would it be and why?
